John met Robert Carr and Marie Sophie Wilson Carr in France in 2013, and the idea was hatched to create a documentary film about John's multifaceted life. After several years of travel with John from New York to Peru to North Carolina, Different Johns (2020) came out shortly after John's death. In spite of the Covid pandemic restrictions, Different Johns has been screened and won awards at festivals around the world, including Raindance (London), FILAF (Perpignan), FAFF (Venice CA), and Frostbite (online).
